Who are we?
About the Clinic
Mosman Eye Centre (MEC) is proud to have a longstanding history of being closely involved with the Mosman and Lower North Shore Community.
MEC was opened officially by Dr Barry Catchlove (AM), philanthropist, on September 12th, 1998, and at that time was owned by Dr Timothy Haymet (FRACO FRACS), a general ophthalmologist with a deep love of the Mosman community, and who was well-loved by the community in return.
In 2015 MEC was purchased by Dr Gregory Moloney, a Corneal Surgeon. He pioneered new treatments for Fuch’s endothelial corneal dystrophy and established Australia’s only Boston Keratoprosthesis Clinic (artificial cornea) and the first Australian Osteo-Odonto-Keratoprosthesis service. Both services offer hope and treatment to the most devastating, bilaterally blind patients.
In 2021, Dr Tanya Trinh was invited by Dr Moloney to take up the mantle of providing cornea and refractive ophthalmic services to the Mosman and Lower North Shore Community and continue working at Sydney Eye Hospital for the Boston Keratoprosthesis and Osteo-Odonto-Keratoprosthesis service.
The Clinic is also exceptionally well supported by well established and highly experienced ophthalmologists specialising in the areas of Medical Retina, General Ophthalmology, Dry Eye, Cataract, Refractive Surgery and Oculoplastics – Drs Barry Barnes, Charmaine Chung (Lim), Thushanthi Ramakrishnan and Richard Parker.
Clinic Value Proposition
Mosman Eye Centre prides itself on providing a boutique, holistic approach to patients and treating their ocular conditions by facilitating patient empowerment and confidence. In contrast to other large providers, we are not an “assembly line” of eye care.
Our distinguishing factor is our commitment to excellence in tailored and personalised clinical, diagnostic and surgical expertise in a warm and understanding environment. We want our patients to know our doctors and feel that this is the right team and place to entrust their eyecare.
We continually strive to stay at the forefront of ophthalmic science and developments, providing only the best outcomes in eye care for our patients. In addition, we frequently engage new technologies within our Clinic to explore what might be best of the cutting edge for our patients.
Clinic Facilities
MEC is a boutique facility like no other. Nestled away in the Mosman community setting, MEC provides four consulting rooms and many spacious waiting areas for patient comfort and wellbeing.
Diagnostic areas are plentiful, and there is an additional on-site treatment room for patients requiring procedures such as ocular injections, biopsies, chalazion removal, botox treatments and intense pulsed laser for dry eye treatments. We also have on-site laser rooms available for retinal conditions such as diabetes and vein occlusions, as well as post-cataract opacification treatments.
The centre is fully wheelchair accessible, inclusive of wheelchair accessible bathrooms. Ample street parking is available away from the main roads, and public transport options are also convenient.
Support for Patients
Our administration assistants are always happy to assist with your queries about your appointments and upcoming surgeries. Please be invited to reach out and contact us if you have any questions. Our orthoptic team are incredibly well-versed in patient care, and we will always endeavour to return your inquiries expeditiously. Any queries that our orthoptics team cannot resolve are escalated to the ophthalmologist who oversees your care.
You may reach out to us by email at admin@mosmaneye.com.au or by phone on 02 9969 1333.
Support for Referrers
MEC frequently offers education sessions to our referrers to support their growth and development in line with technologies as they are released. In addition, our doctors can frequently be found in the Mosman and Lower North Shore Community meeting with General Practitioners and Optometrists and are constantly improving upon our service delivery and being open to feedback.
MEC supports patients returning to their optometrists as their primary ocular care provider in conjunction with oversight from and collaborative care with their ophthalmologist.
For urgent referrals– please feel free to reach out to us by phone, and we will do our best to fit your patient in the same day if required.
All other referrals can usually be fit in within the week, and we can work with your patients’ schedules to find what suits them best.
